WHY
ORDER ORGANIC?
The benefits of Organic production are now well established
and they are multiple – helping ourselves as well as
our environment.
Organic
production does not involve the use of pesticides or chemicals,
which means that the food we provide is literally good enough
to eat and does not contain anything that your body will not
welcome. Sometimes your delivery will contain fruit and vegetables
of an unusual shape or colour compared with those you tend
to see on the supermarket shelves. We do not restrict our
suppliers in any way other than to request that the produce
is fresh, organic and delicious.
The
nutritional benefits of an organic diet are great and you
can learn more about this by visiting the soil association
website at www.soilassociation.org/nutrition.
Recent studies have shown how this improved diet can help
us with long term health benefits and increased achievement
levels within the realms of education and business.
So
we know that what we are selling is good for you but experience
shows it is also good for our environment – that is
the land and the animals who share the earth with us.
When
you farm organically you are working hand in hand with nature
to create an abundant crop of seasonal goodness, the methods
this type of farming employs mean that the insects and animals
found on the farm can enjoy their natural part of this production
process.
A
simple example of this is where areas of the farm are set
aside each year to replenish the nutrients in the soil by
growing a green fertiliser such as red clover on the land
– the bees love it! Leaving wide margins around the
edge of the fields and caring for the hedgerows gives nesting
birds and small animals a habitat they can thrive in.
Buying
organically means that you are choosing to remove from the
food production process the need to manufacture chemicals
and pesticides. Buying food locally does reduce your
personal carbon footprint but not neccessarily the carbon
footprint of the food itself because of the production of
the materials used in other forms of farming.
